I have to admit, I was skeptical before doing my Stitch Fix review. I had always seen Stitch Fix ads and heard about people trying it, but I wasn’t sure if I would like their clothes. I had watched some unboxings on YouTube and the items just weren’t my style. But was that because they had different style preferences than me or the quality of the service? So, I decided to find out. Read my Stitch Fix review to decide if Stitch Fix is worth trying. I’m sharing a peek into my box, a try-on video, inside tips, and my referral link (see bottom of post)!

What is Stitch Fix?
If you’ve heard the name but aren’t sure exactly what Stitch Fix is, it is basically a mail order personal stylist. Here’s a quick summary, but a ton more details are below in my Stitch Fix Review: You sign up, share your style preferences, and then a stylist sends you five items that they think you will love for a $20 styling fee. You can then try them on at home, and decide if you want to keep them. If you do, your $20 styling fee is applied towards the prices of the item(s). If you don’t, no problem. Just send them back in a prepaid shipping envelope.
How often do you get a Stitch Fix Box?
This is one of the things I loved learning when doing my Stitch Fix review. I thought Stitch Fix always had to be on a set frequency: once per month, quarter, etc. Well, you can do that BUT you can also do Stitch Fix on demand! How great is that? So, you can set it up online so you don’t receive a box until you tell them to send you one.
Pricing Breakdown
- $20 styling fee paid whenever you choose to get a Stitch Fix box
- This $20 fee is applied to the price of any item you decide to keep. For instance, if you buy a $38 top, you will only pay an additional $18 for that top.
- If you keep all items, you get 25% off ALL your items. That makes a big difference on price! But, don’t go keeping items you don’t love just to get a discount.
- I will go into this more in a bit, but you can set your price point preferences when you sign up so that they aren’t sending you an item that is waaaaay out of your budget just to tempt you.
What items did I get in my Stitch Fix Box?
Ark N Co Cross Back Sweater (forward to 3:35 in video):
I thought this sweater was very cute, especially the cross-back detail on the back. I love the burgundy color, which is perfect for this time of year with the holidays. The dealbreaker on this one, for me, was the price. If I had gotten 25% off if I kept all the items, I would have considered it, but at $58 I thought I could get something very similar at a lower price point.
Emily Rose Zipper Detail Cardigan (forward to 5:15 in video):
How amazing are those zipper details? See them better in my try-on video. I am all about the details, and I think these wrapper details make this cardigan so much more interesting and expensive looking. I would never have chosen this hunter green color, but I really liked it on.
MTLA Leggings (forward to 5:55 in video):
You can’t tell by the picture, but these are fleece inside!!! Game-changer. These are slightly more than I would typically pay for a pair of leggings, but they fit great (fitted but not overly tight feeling) and are unbelievably comfortable. This is my first non-California winter, so I figured it was worth investing in a warmer pair 🙂
Bay to Baubles Cuff Bracelet (forward to 2:15 in video):
As soon as I saw this bracelet, I knew it was going back. It is not at all my style and doesn’t go with the other pieces, so not sure what they were thinking on this one. I was especially bummed because I was considering keeping all the pieces to get my 25% off discount, but this really changed my mind.
Page VI Knit Top (forward to 4:25 in video):
This tee is so cute on! When I first looked at it, I thought it was kind of boring, but then I put it on and fell in love. This is another reason to try Stitch Fix because I guarantee you I would not have tried it on if I saw it in a store. But, I absolutely love the cutout details that make it a little bit edgy and not your basic tee – a keeper!
Watch my Stitch Fix review video below to see me try on all of the items I received and hear what I thought:
Hope you liked the video! I went back and forth about whether to take photos or film a video of me trying on the items. I decided to go with the video because I think it gives you a better idea of what the items look like on. Let me know if you have a preference for future posts in the comments.
5 Things I Learned During My Stitch Fix Review:
1. You can’t get these items anywhere else – I checked.
You know me, bargain shopper, had to check online to compare prices of the items I received. Well, I’ve got news for you, these items aren’t online. They aren’t in stores. These items are sold exclusively to Stitch Fix. The cool part about that is that they are more unique and you are unlikely to see them on your friend or a random person walking down the street.
2. The “styling” process is much more extensive than I expected.
Before you get your first Stitch Fix, you take a style survey that covered even more than I expected and helps your stylist customize your box to you. Here are just some samples of the questions they ask you:
- Typical size you wear: pants, tops, dresses?
- How often do you dress for each occassion? (e.g. wedding, work, casual)
- What ares you like to flaunt vs. down play?
- How do you like your tops to fit? (e.g. fitted, loose)
- Are you more into pants & jeans or dresses & skirts?
- How would you describe your style (e.g. boho, glam, preppy)?
- Anything to avoid (e.g. colors, prints, fabrics)?
- Rate photos of different types of outfits as hate, ok, like, love
- Prices: you can select what price range you want your stylist to try to select items from (e.g. cheaper the better, $50-100, $100-150, etc.)
Stitch Fix recommends that you create a Pinterest board with clothing items that you love for your stylist to review (you share the link in the style survey). I did this for my Stitch Fix review box and highly recommend you do. I think it is super important for getting items you really like. Here is my Pinterest Stitch Fix board if you are looking for inspiration:
You can also provide notes to your stylist about specifics things you want or don’t want. Don’t be shy and feel like you are being pushy. They want ideas of how to make you happier since that is their goal, so it’s a win-win.
I know my stylist read my notes too because she mentioned something I had written in her note with my Stitch Fix review box.
3. They offer more than just clothes.
I didn’t realize that they also offer accessories, shoes, and purses. I thought it was just clothes, but no.
In the style survey you can opt to avoid anything (e.g. shoes) you don’t want to receive – whatever you would like. I got one accessory and you will see what I thought of it below…
4. You get 3 days to try your Stitch Fix items on, BUT I have an insider tip so don’t miss this!
When I got my Stitch Fix box, I was so excited! I could hardly wait to open it! But, it was in the middle of a busy work week, and I only had time to open it and take a look at the items. I didn’t have time to try them all on and decide.
Then, I logged on to my account a couple evenings later and realized you only have three days to review it and send any items back you don’t want! Wait, that meant I needed to send items back the next day?! (Cue panic!) BUT WAIT, READ THIS...no need to panic…
I realized you can easily extend your check out date by logging on to Stitch Fix. Phew! This was such a relief because I did not want to feel pressured to quickly try them on and impulsively buy something I may not want.
5. Stitch Fix offers exchanges.
Love an item, but it doesn’t fit? Don’t get bummed. You can select an exchange on your Stitch Fix account where you check out and provide feedback. They will send you a different size at no added cost.
Were my impressions of Stitch Fix before I tried it right?
Spoiler alert: nope!
1. None of the items they choose will be my style.
Wrong! I actually liked all but one item. I wanted to watch my budget, so I opted to keep my two favorites. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised that I liked the items they chose as much as I did.
2. All the items they choose will be expensive.
Wrong again! I didn’t realize before my Stitch Fix review that you get to pick the price point your stylist should aim for and this makes a huge difference! I would say the base price of many of the items was a bit higher than I would typically pay when I am bargain shopping, but they were not out of my price range. Plus, you can really get a great deal if you keep all your items and get 25% off!
3. I don’t want to get a box every month.
You don’t have to. Like I mentioned above, you can select to get them once per season OR on demand. If you select on demand, they won’t send you a box until you request it. Super flexible – I love it!
4. What makes it different than shopping online?
Quite a bit, actually. There is something so exciting about receiving items in the mail that you have no idea about. It feels like Christmas when you get your box! Plus, it is way easier because you don’t have to do any of the work picking them out. Finally, returns are practically effortless. You slip them in the prepaid shipping bag they give you in your box. Put them in your mailbox. Done!
5. The items won’t fit.
Wrong again! All the items I got fit me – I was shocked. If they don’t fit, they do offer an exchange option like I mentioned above.
Final Stitch Fix Review Summary:
I really enjoyed my Stitch Fix experience and kept multiple pieces. I think I will continue to use it on demand when I am looking for some new pieces for my wardrobe. You really can’t beat the convenience and I like that it forced me to try on items I wouldn’t in the store but ended up loving!
